1st Recipient of the Ms. Ursula John Scholarship Award

Houston Caribfest is proud to present Miss Yolanda Cornwall the 1st Ms. Ursula John Memorial Scholarship on behalf of HCUF at the Trinidad & Tobago Annual Scholarship & Dance Gala held Saturday, August 25, 2007.

In the fall semester of 2007, Yolanda Simone Cornwall will begin her senior year at the University of Texas Austin. Her experiences to date have molded her desire to become a pharmacist: she volunteers at St. David's Hospital in Austin, gives freely of her time at the Ronald McDonald House and is an active member of the Longhorn Pre-Pharmacy Association. Her desire to help others extends beyond caring for the sick as evidenced by her committment to her peers by being a Resident Assistant.
With all of these activities, Yolanda is still able to maintain academic success and has been inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Scholastic Honor Society. She relates that she implements the philosophy "Nothing worthwhile comes easily" and is determined to continue striving for her goals. 1
